The specialist cited data from Rosstat, according to which in the middle of this year 6.8 percent of the employee payroll was needed to fill vacant positions, while in 2022 the deficit was 5.8 percent.

“If we expand the data presented by Rosstat to the entire population of employed people, the shortage of workers in 2023 will be approximately 4.8 million people,” Izvestia quotes an excerpt from the study.

According to Ajapkin, in the last two years the labor shortage in the country has increased considerably. At the same time, a shortage of employees was observed even in conditions when the number of employed people was stable.

The specialist emphasized that the unmet demand for labor significantly affects the economy, having a decelerating effect on its growth.

In early November, the president of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, stated that the main problem of the Russian economy is not the lack of money and loans, but the shortage of labor. “Unemployment has reached 3% and in some regions even less, which means there is practically no free hand left in the economy,” she noted.

The agro-industrial complex also suffers from a shortage of specialists, RG correspondents found out. In various areas of the agro-industrial complex there is a 30 to 50% shortage of workers. The problem lies mainly in low incomes: nowhere are salaries at least equivalent to the average for the region.
