“This is a historic decision, whose sole purpose is to achieve peace for Israelis and Palestinians,” Sanchez said.
He also said,
Recognition of a Palestinian state is not only a matter of historical justice… it is now imperative if we all want to achieve peace.
The Prime Minister of Spain also commented that this step is not against anyone, at least not against Israel.
According to him,
This (recognition of Palestinian statehood) is the only way to move towards a solution, which we all recognize as the only possible way to achieve a peaceful future. Through this, the state of Palestine will also co-exist with Israel in peace and security.
Earlier last week, the joint announcement of the prime ministers of Spain, Ireland and Norway revealed their plans to recognize Palestine as an independent state.
Along with Spain, Ireland and Norway are also expected to officially recognize Palestine as an independent state on Tuesday.
