Ireland’s foreign minister said we will recognize Palestine before the end of May. However, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland did not say anything about the date on which this recognition will be given.

Michelle Martin says,

The exact date has not been fixed yet. Because we are discussing with a few countries for simultaneous recognition. The matter will be clear in the next few days. But it will be before the end of May.

In March this year, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Malta said in a joint statement that they are ready to recognize Palestine.EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said last week that Spain, Ireland and Slovenia plan to recognize a Palestinian state on May 21.

Earlier, on Tuesday (May 7), the North American country of Bahamas officially recognized Palestine as a state. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas said, “The Government of The Bahamas believes that the recognition of the State of Palestine strongly demonstrates the commitment of the Government of The Bahamas to the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, to the political rights, economic, social and cultural rights and the right of people to self-determination as described in civil and international treaties.” ‘

The statement added, “The Bahamas supports the Palestinian people’s unfettered legal right to political self-determination and independent economic, social and cultural development.”
