On Saturday, November 25, CSKA and Dynamo will play matchday 16 of the RPL. One of the main figures of the “fraternal derby” will be the blue and white’s summer newcomer Jorge Carrascal, bought by Dynamo from the military team for 3.5 million euros. So far, the Colombian has not proven that Vladimir Fedotov was wrong to reject his services, but he has the opportunity to do so in a personal meeting.

Curiously, in the 21st century there were not many transitions from one club in the capital to another. Former army players Carrascal and Kirill Panchenko became Dynamo players, Alexey Ionov continued in the opposite direction. But the middle of the year turned out to be very fruitful in terms of transfers between the blue and white and the red and blue.

How Gazzaev lost the “golden” match to Semin 21 years later:

Loskov repeated his legendary goal with CSKA! Semin again won the “golden” match against Gazzaev

In April 2001, Valery Gazzaev resigned from the position of head coach of Dynamo, having worked with the team for just over one season. Seven months later, in November of that year, Gazzaev took charge of CSKA. The new president of the military team, Evgeniy Giner, was going to form a strong team for the European competitions and for this he invited the former blue and white coach.

Gazzaev began his work at CSKA in the preseason before the 2002 Russian Championship. The new coach greatly shook up the squad, which the previous season took seventh place: he got rid of a whole group of players and invited a large number of newcomers. The budget for reinforcement was allocated quite seriously to the RPL of that time.

After the Dynamo coach, four (!) footballers moved to CSKA in a few months. In the summer of 2001, when Gazzaev was not officially working with the army team (for six months he led the Russian youth team), but was already dealing with selection issues, the transfer of Spartak striker Gogniev was announced.

“They really counted on me at Dynamo, from where I went to CSKA. The then president Nikolai Tolstykh said that the club really wanted to keep me. But at that time I was related to Valery Gazzaev. He took me to Dinamo and then advised me to move to the army team, ”Gogniev said in an interview with the Championship.

In November 2001, the media reported on the transfers of defender Deividas Semberas and midfielder Rolan Gusev. And in the winter of 2002, the last former Dynamo player in the military team was goalkeeper Dmitry Kramarenko.

Each had their own reasons for changing Dynamo for CSKA. Gusev, a blue and white graduate, played 161 games for his native club over six seasons. But the lateral midfielder, according to him, was not satisfied with the development of the team.

“I realized that the time had come to leave, around the summer of 2001, six months before moving to CSKA,” Gusev recalled (in an interview for the weekly Football). “At that time, delays in salaries and bonuses had already become commonplace, everyone was patient, but the guys were nervous… My contract was about to end. Tolstykh insisted on an extension, but I saw where things were going. Then the new coach, Igor Sergienko, tried to persuade me, he involved high-level people, but I had one question: what would happen to the team? I wanted to understand who they plan to strengthen the squad with. “It turned out that Dinamo would not fight for high positions.”

Gusev negotiated with Dinamo Kiev and Spartak, which was then led by the head coach of the Russian national team, Oleg Romantsev. Roland gave his preliminary consent to move to Spartak, and then changed his mind. As the midfielder himself stated, after this Romantsev told Gusev that he would not take him to the 2002 World Cup.

Semberas had better offers. The defender, like Gusev, was thinking about signing a new deal with Dynamo. In the end, CSKA offered the Lithuanian conditions that surprised him.

“My contract expired and I was in no hurry to renew it, because there was an offer from Zenit,” admitted Semberas (in an interview for the official UEFA website). – But literally the day before signing the contract with the St. Petersburg team, I met with the president of CSKA, Evgeny Giner. When I heard the proposal, frankly, my head was spinning.”

Kramarenko was offended by the attitude of the Dynamo management and coach. However, initially the goalkeeper of the Azerbaijan national team did not go to CSKA. He was on trial at Atlético and trained with Spartak. Then, unexpectedly, an invitation came from Gazzaev, with whom Dmitry’s relationship was not always easy. However, Kramarenko joined CSKA as a reserve hoping to compete for a place in the starting lineup.

“I decided to become a free agent because the previous management did not fulfill the terms of our agreement,” Kramarenko said in 2002 about his parting with Dynamo (in an interview for SE). – In particular, they did not provide an apartment. But I’m not going to contact the CDC because I have special feelings for the team. In the summer I told coach Novikov that he was going to leave Dynamo; he was tired of plugging holes. Since then he seems to have given up on me.”

In the 2002 season, CSKA took off from the beginning. In the first six matches (five rounds of the RPL and quarterfinals of the Russian Cup), Gazzaev’s team won six victories with a total score of 10:1. Then failures began to occur, however, already in May the army team won the first trophy under a new coach: they beat Zenit in the Russian Cup final with 2:0. This match was mainly remembered for the excellent play of Andrei Solomatin, who “ate” the young Vladimir Bystrov on his flank and scored the winning goal at the end of the half hour of the match. But former Dynamo players Semberas and Gusev also contributed to the success, playing 90 minutes. Kramarenko and Gogniev remained on the bench.

That season, Gusev eventually became the top scorer of the Russian championship along with CSKA striker Dmitry Kirichenko: both scored 15 goals. Additionally, Roland provided 11 assists. Semberas was in the starting eleven in almost every game. Gogniev, as a rule, came on as a substitute and scored only a couple of goals. Kramarenko participated in only three games.

The army team was close to the championship: it scored the same number of points with Lokomotiv. The title holder was determined in the “golden” match, in which Gazzaev’s team still lost to Yuri Semin’s team with a score of 0:1. In the decisive match between former Dynamo players, only Gusev was included in the starting eleven and Gogniev played the last five minutes.

How CSKA and Dynamo play in the Moscow Championship:

“Spartak” is ahead of everyone in the “Moscow Championship” table. The rojiblancos do not have a single defeat

Then the careers of the four former Dynamo players in CSKA developed differently. Kramarenko stayed on the team for only two seasons and played only four games for the army team. But today, unlike the rest of this quartet, he works at CSKA as a goalkeeping coach. Gogniev left a little later, in July 2004. He has 10 + 2 in 55 matches with the military team. Spartak, unlike the goalkeeper, played little in the 2003 championship season.

Gusev gave the army team six years of his career. He played 198 games, scored 41 goals and gave 39 assists. But he never had a season as productive as his first at CSKA. However, the midfielder won three championships, four Russian Cups, two national Super Cups and one UEFA Cup with the team. In the final against Sporting in May 2005, Roland came on as a substitute. And in the summer of 2023, coach Gusev moved from the CSKA Academy to Dynamo, where he became Marcel Licka’s assistant.

Semberas had the most successful career at CSKA. Deividas played for the military team for 10 and a half years, played 467 matches and scored 2+4. The Lithuanian won three championships, six Russian Cups, four national Super Cups and the UEFA Cup. In the final against Sporting, like Gusev, he appeared on the field at the end of the match.

Perhaps CSKA did not miss a beat in any of those four transfers to Dynamo: all the newcomers were useful in their role.
