We are talking about fish caught in Russia and processed in third countries.

The president of the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Companies, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), German Zverev, stated that the decision of the United States government will affect the wallets of American consumers. For them it will be a shock, RIA Novosti quotes an expert.

Zverev noted that crab has already become more expensive in the United States, both in stores and restaurants. Now the situation will be aggravated by the shortage of cod.

“The volumes are difficult to estimate, but I think they are significant. The curious thing is that it is good news for the domestic market: fish and crabs will be cheaper and more accessible,” says Alexander Fomin, vice president of the association. of Industrial and Commercial Companies of the Fish Market.

Recall that last summer the import of crab from Russia to the United States was prohibited, which caused an increase in prices.

“Now the situation will be aggravated by the ban on cod. In the last ten years, cod catches in the United States have been reduced by half,” the experts explained.

On Friday, December 22, the United States Department of the Treasury announced a ban on the supply of salmon, cod, haddock and crab products to the country. It is worth noting that importing Russian seafood into the United States was previously prohibited, but the ban did not apply to processing in third countries.
