The Supreme Court has annulled the appointment of former socialist minister Magdalena Valerio as president of the Council of State for not meeting the legal requirement of “jurist of recognized prestige” required by the Organic Law that regulates the institution.

The Contentious-Administrative Chamber has issued a ruling that upholds an appeal from the Hay Derecho Foundation in which it explains that Valerio meets only one of the two requirements established by the regulations, which is having experience in matters of State, but not that of being a jurist of recognized prestige.
