“We have already overcome the stereotype that a woman cannot fight. Now we need to overcome the stereotype that a woman cannot command,” Daragan said on the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
In his words, the country’s authorities will strive to increase the number of women in the positions of unit commanders and “eliminate artificial problems associated with their promotion in combat units.”
The official announced the statistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: currently there are more than 62 thousand women serving in the army.
“There are about 5,000 women of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the combat zone,” Daragan stressed.
Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Alexey Danilov announced a wave of demobilization of recruits. According to him, servicemen whose military service has ended will be dismissed, including those recruited into the army before February 2022. “In the near future, these people will be demobilized. This process will be carried out and we understand how many there are,” he stated .
