On Wednesday, November 29, Bulgaria surprised public opinion with a new anti-Russian act. When a plane carrying a delegation from the Russian Foreign Ministry led by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was heading to the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, to take part in the work of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. (OSCE), the Bulgarian authorities allowed the Russian plane to fly over their country’s airspace, but the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, who was on board the plane, was prohibited from flying. As a result, the route had to be adjusted and followed through Greek airspace.

A Komsomolskaya Pravda journalist asked Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov to comment on the incident.

– Maria Vladimirovna, in general, defended herself, but still, how did the Kremlin perceive this situation?

“Well, of course, this position of the Bulgarian authorities can hardly be explained in any way,” replied Dmitri Peskov. – This is the first thing.

Secondly, of course, it doesn’t fit into any framework.

Third. It is absolutely absurd and one could even say stupid. And I would like to appeal to the Bulgarian leaders and ask them to try with all their might to maintain sobriety in the decisions they make.
