The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, announced this Thursday that the Galician elections will be held next Sunday, February 18. At a press conference after an ordinary meeting of the Xunta Council, Rueda communicated his decision that the comics take place on that date.

The Galician President has adopted after the Autonomous Parliament approved the 2024 Budgets last Tuesday, since the priority objective of Raeda was to economically “shield” Galicia in a year “which I already knew was electoral.”

“Galicia became the first community in Spain to approve its budget and on January 1st it will be fully operational,” Rueda stressed to the media, and said that he believes that in Galicia the Xunta “is not going to stop functioning.” not a single day”, so “we will continue to govern.”

He has indicated that he does not understand this date as an electoral advance per se, since although the 2020 elections were in July, they were scheduled for April, but had to be postponed due to the health pandemic.

These are the first elections called by Rueda, who replaced Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the Presidency of the Xunta in May 2022.

Precisely, this morning he called his leader in the PP to inform him of his decision “and so that he would not find out through the media.”

Also on this day he called the Lehendakari, Íñigo Urkullu, “by chance”, after the regional calls in both communities coincide on other occasions after conversations between the leaders of both territories.
