“We also confirm the release of 39 women and children detained in Israeli prisons as part of the implementation of the obligations of the first day of the agreement,” said Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari on the social network (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).

The diplomat also said that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took hostage 24 civilians held in the Gaza Strip as part of a humanitarian truce agreement.

Last Wednesday the introduction of a four-day truce and an exchange of hostages was announced. Agreements were reached between Israel and Hamas thanks to the mediation of Egypt and Qatar. It is planned that, in various stages, 150 Palestinian women and children imprisoned in Israeli jails will be exchanged for 50 women and children held hostage in the Gaza Strip.

The truce began on Friday at 7:00 (8:00 Moscow time) and the exchange of hostages began at 16:00 (17:00 Moscow time). Over the course of four days, 200 trucks with humanitarian aid and four with fuel and domestic gas will enter the Gaza Strip.
