Following this, Francis’ appeal to the faithful was read by the representative of the Vatican Secretariat of State, Monsignor Paolo Luca Braida.

However, the pontiff confirmed that he intends to travel to the United Arab Emirates on December 1 for the UN climate conference.

Italian media point out that the pontiff had previously been diagnosed with a mild form of flu.
