The annual volume of cargo transshipment will amount to 14 million tons. The port received the resident status of Yuzhnaya ASEZ. Survey work is currently underway at the site. It is planned to come into operation in 2027.

“The port is of particular importance for our country. This is due to the development of the Northern Sea Route: two of the seven deep-water ports on the route will be Sakhalin,” Governor Valeri Limarenko stressed.

Meanwhile, in Vladivostok, on the Nazimov Peninsula, a new fishing port will be built, Interfax writes. Its objective will be the transshipment of northern cargo up to 240 thousand tons per year. The decision was made at a meeting of the Presidium of the Government Commission for the Social and Economic Development of the Far East.

About 70 percent of the fish is caught in the Far East, including Primorye, but the region’s ports are heavily loaded.

“We cannot store all volumes on the territory of the region; the capacity of refrigerators does not allow this. To alleviate the load on the port infrastructure of the region and eliminate the shortage of refrigeration capacity, the President of the Russian Federation decided develop a fishing port on the Nazimova peninsula,” says the presidential plenipotentiary envoy for the Far East, Yuri Trutnev.
