The men’s individual athletes were the first to complete their performances on the stage of the Russian Grand Prix at Moscow’s Megasport. The second victory of the season was won by Vladislav Dikidzhi, the only one of the leaders who showed an absolutely clean performance, without falls or breakdowns. He ahead of Oleg Tataurov’s student, Mark Kondratyuk, who returned to the podium, and Daniil Samsonov from Eteri Tutberidze’s group.

How did you do in the men’s free program?

Dmitry Aliev, who failed in the short program, started with joy and confidence, with a quadruple toe loop and a quadruple Salchow. But then he built a second sheepskin coat, instead of a triple Axel he made a triple, doubled Lutz and Littberger.

The points were enough to take the intermediate lead, but only until the second warm-up performance. Both Andrey Anisimov and Semyon Solovyov defeated Aliyev.

And then it was the turn of the real contenders for victory, among them Mark Kondratyuk, Vladislav Dikidzhi, Daniil Samsonov and Matvey Vetlugin.

Kondratyuk immediately fell from a quadruple Lutz, but then things improved, although not in the most perfect way possible. Mark landed a quadruple toe loop and two quadruple Salchows in the second half of the program, but the first one was a step up. And one of the jumps in the three-three waterfall turned out to be double. But this was definitely a request to at least get on the podium!

Vladislav Dikidzhi’s initial bet was easier: the quadruple jumps were performed in the second half of the program, but he overcame them without falls or breakdowns. Quadruple lutz, cascading salchow in a sheepskin coat, solo salchow – Oleg Tataurov’s student did it all! He did not allow any flaws in the lighter elements and deservedly earned higher scores than Kondratyuk. More than 100 – for equipment!

Daniil Samsonov from Eteri Tutberidze’s group, as in the short program, decided to take cleanliness and waterfalls without quads in the second half of the program. This time the calculation did not come true. First, Danya fell from a quadruple Salchow; she managed to get her hand in, but the judges still counted the fall.

Not everything went well: the skater doubled the sheepskin coat in a cascade, then got confused in the calculations and performed an additional triple spin, losing the element. Samsonov could have performed, for example, a triple Salchow and would not have lost points, but he did not have time to reorient himself during the program. Tutberidze scolded the student with “kiss and edge”, and her ward flew away under Dikidzhi and Kondratyuk.

Matvey Vetlugin closed the men’s competition with almost 100 points in the short program. Unfortunately, student Alexei Mishin’s free skate did not work out. Vetlugin fell out of both quadruple loops and continued “strangely” later: he stepped into a triple lutz, the same into a cascade of loops.

Matvey received points that were only enough for fifth place. And Vladislav Dikidzhi is the only man who scored two victories in the Grand Prix stages.
