A live New Year tree can be purchased at Christmas tree markets, 490 of which have been opened in the capital region: 240 in Moscow and 250 in the Moscow region. It can be rented, however, in this case there are restrictions on the growth of the spruce, since only potted trees are rented and, as a rule, they are no larger than one to one and a half meters. In addition, a rented tree requires special care, and the place where it can be placed will have to be chosen strictly in accordance with the lessor’s recommendations.

Or you can cut down your own Christmas tree in the forest. Completely legally, without hiding from anyone and choosing a beauty of the height and size that suits you best. The traditional “Spruce home – with the whole family” campaign has begun in the region, which will last exactly until December 31.

For independent felling of Christmas trees, special plots have been prepared in the forest nurseries of the Dmitrovsky and Sergiev Posad region. “In them we grow trees that can be cut down without damaging the rest of the forest,” Galina Khrenova, an engineer at the Dmitrov nursery, tells RG. The assortment is varied: from one-meter babies to elegant beauties three meters under the roof. On average, coniferous species increase their growth by 10-15 cm per year, it is clear that the areas were not created for action, but were selected for it. Logging is allowed where environmentalists see: the spruce forest is planted or has become too dense on its own, in 5-10-15 years the trees will begin to interfere with each other, shade the sun and bend their trunks. In addition, at the moment they are no different from their counterparts sold in Christmas tree markets.

As Vladislav Murashov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region, points out, the action, which, by the way, turns five this year, is a good prevention of illegal felling of New Year trees. On average, 1,000 people come to the plots each year. Many come with families to walk through the winter forest, breathe in the frosty smell of pine needles and choose a Christmas tree to their liking. You can take a Christmas tree or a pine tree, there are even blue spruces, or you can limit yourself to a bunch of fresh spruce branches. The access to the plots has been cleared and visitors are welcomed. They will even find an ax if someone doesn’t take theirs. The main condition is to arrive before dark, that is, between 10:00 and 15:00, and dress warmly. And call the nursery in advance to express your wishes regarding the type and height of the tree. Then they will take the shortest path to it.

You will also have to pay for a tree to be cut down as part of the promotion. But the price will also be promotional, three times cheaper than in the bazaars.
