According to the department, in September the EU significantly increased purchases of Russian grain: in one month they increased by 22 percent and in a year tenfold, up to 180 thousand tons. It is clarified that this was the maximum purchase volume for a year and a half. In this way, Russia has become the fourth largest cereal exporter to the EU.
Europe’s main grain supplier is Ukraine. Supplies from there increased by 1 percent during the month and during the year, on the contrary, decreased by a quarter, to 1.2 million tons.
In second place is Brazil. Exports from there multiplied by 1.8 in the month, up to 1.1 million tons. Türkiye closes the top three, sending 204 thousand tons of cereals to the European Union. In fifth place is Canada, whose supplies decreased by a third, to 139 thousand tons.
As previously reported, this year, from July to October, Russia exported more than one and a half times more grain compared to the same period last year. The main buyers were Türkiye, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh.
