The arrests were made in Nancy and two other cities in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in northern France. According to preliminary data, the suspects belong to the Islamist movement. They are taken into custody. No details about his alleged crimes have been released.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Friday urged local authorities to “remain extremely vigilant” during the Christmas holidays due to the “very high level of terrorist threat that continues to exist.”

In October, France declared its highest terrorist threat level following the murder of Dominique Bernard, a French professor stabbed to death by a radicalized student. The increase in the threat level also occurred in the context of the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
