Movies about historical figures have become very popular again lately. This should not surprise us, because there are always many fascinating nuances to be found in the events of the past. They are interesting for the modern viewer, who is already quite fed up with superheroes, Transformers and other fictions.
Even more valuable are paintings with an all-star cast, recreated by famous creators and industry figures. michael mann (“Ford v Ferrari”, “Johnny D.”, “The Aviator”) has long established himself as a talented director who knows how to tell different stories.
This time he presented a biographical film about Enzo Ferrari and showed in detail one of the most important periods of his life: not so intense in terms of racing, but very brilliant for the designer.
Ferrari: where to look?
Official screenings of the film in Russian cinemas will begin on December 21.

Success does not always bring happiness
Ferrari will take viewers back to the year 1957. At that time, Ferrari and Maserati competed against each other on the circuits of Italy, leaving all their rivals behind. But the film is not about that at all: it presents another side, often hidden from the public eye.
Car designer and company owner Enzo Ferrari is going through difficult times. The company can’t keep up with demand and is losing profits, a talented runner has joined a competitor and is breaking records, and all is not well in his personal life.
On the screen we see an adult and self-sufficient man, whose heart burns at full speed. He is stingy with emotions and only thanks to victories on the track he experiences such vivid feelings. This can be clearly seen in a conversation with my son during a discussion about the principle of operation of the engine. Sure, he cares about plant issues, but his greatest interest is in the team’s success.

Despite the limited duration of two hours, the director managed to convey the era in detail and immerse the viewer in what was happening. It is very difficult to part with it: the action is intriguing, it allows you to feel like a participant in it and touch even the most intimate moments. Not a single frame is wasted and the viewer absorbs it eagerly.
This effect is achieved not only by high-quality camera work, a solid script and the careful work of the director, but also by the excellent acting of the cast. Adam Driver, who doesn’t look much like him, in the role of Enzo Ferrari, reveals to the viewer every corner of his soul. He skillfully conveys the existence of the hero and in each scene he conveys the entire range of emotions, completely giving himself over to the character.
An important role in the formation of the hero was played by his relationships with Lina Lardi (Shailene Woodley) and Laura Ferrari (Penelope Cruz). Only these women were able to expose Enzo’s true nature. They are very different from each other, but very loved by Enzo at certain moments in his life. No wonder they were given so much time during Ferrari’s darkest period.

The actresses meticulously represent the episodes, clearly and colorfully conveying the feelings of their heroines. Penelope instantly lights up like the flame of a barely perceptible spark, helping Adam reveal the passionate, animalistic nature of the car designer. Through Shailene it is possible to convey the love and warmth that the hero radiates towards her beloved and son. These revelations are truly fascinating and hide nothing from the viewer.
All of these personal experiences and interactions between characters are supported by numerous facts. The director does not try to change the story. He consistently and clearly reveals the characters’ characters from different angles, correctly connects each episode to show their influence on fate, and helps viewers become eyewitnesses of the unfolding drama.
As a result, movie lovers will be able to touch a touching story with a dark tone and sharp turns. Behind heartbreaking cases and tragic incidents hide ordinary people with typical problems. They want goodness and peace, trying to survive the troubles that have befallen them. And it’s fascinating to watch.

Let’s look separately at what will be hidden behind the dubbing for the majority of Russian viewers. The entire cast skillfully uses Italian accents in their speech to convey the temperament of the characters and further immerse the viewer in the atmosphere.
Ferrari: is it worth seeing?
The film will appeal to fans of detailed stories that do not hide the reality behind a Hollywood screen. Here there was room not only for “retelling” the biography of the great demiurge of the automobile industry, but also for humor, family dramas and sad fragments of the life of Enzo Ferrari.
Ferrari score: 7.5 out of 10
