Jakarta – The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga said that efforts to protect victims, especially women and children victims of criminal acts, must be carried out comprehensively.
“The steps taken do not only focus on handling in the legal sphere when they become victims of a crime, but must also carry out handling in the social sphere,” said Bintang Puspayoga in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He said this at the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

According to him, this is related to social rehabilitation and empowerment for victims of criminal acts so that they are no longer repeated victims and have the hope of leading a better and more meaningful life in society.

Bintang Puspayoga said that in realizing protection for women and children who are victims of crime, this cannot be done partially, but needs to be done jointly through collaboration between ministries/agencies (K/L) and the community.

“The importance of synergy and collaboration between parties is emphasized in Law Number 31 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 13 of 2006 concerning Protection of Witnesses and Victims that the LPSK provides protection in crimes of sexual violence and children. Protection in the form of physical protection, fulfillment of procedural rights, medical and psychological assistance, and facilitation of restitution,” he said.

Bintang Puspayoga added that in the protection work for victims of sexual and child violence committed by the LPSK they did not act alone.

In this case, he said, collaboration was built with various elements of society who are concerned about the same issue, including the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection.

This collaboration resulted in many concrete works such as the promulgation of the Sexual Violence Act (UU TPKS) which had a real impact on victims of criminal acts, he explained.
