“Championship” resumes its column about Russian hockey players in North America. Without limiting ourselves only to the NHL, we will talk about guys who play in youth leagues, the AHL, the ECHL and even US student teams. Exactly a month ago we summarized the provisional results for October and in this article we tell you what our players showed until the end of November.

In the first month of the NHL regular season, eight Russian goaltenders participated in the world’s main hockey league. In November, Tampa’s main goalie joined them. Andrey Vasilevsky, who missed the initial part of the season due to injury and surgery. Almost two months without training could not but have a negative impact on the Russian’s form, and so far Vasilevsky is clearly far from his usual condition.

The goalkeepers of “Colorado” and “Florida” still carry almost the maximum load. Alexander Georgiev AND Sergei Bobrovsky respectively, while the Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin He played a little less games than usual. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, Igor suffered a minor injury, and secondly, the American veteran jonathan quick He replaces the Russian in a simply brilliant way, so the Rangers had the opportunity not to force the return of their number one.

At the Islanders, the Russian goalkeeper tandem does everything possible for their team’s victories, but the field hockey players let their goalkeepers down, hence the 28-year-old. Ilya Sorokin With the highest percentage of reflected shots, the ratio of victories over games played is not the best.

In turn, things are going badly in Toronto. Ilya Samsonovwhich demonstrates terrible statistical indicators and is frankly losing competition to the American joseph wall. It seems unstable in Carolina Peter Kochetkovalternating excellent encounters with failed ones, hence such a weak percentage of reflected shots.

In November, the leader of the makeshift Russian NHL scoring race changed. First place went to the Tampa Bay forward who had an incredible month that included a historic six-point game. Nikita Kucherov. It is not surprising that such a crazy performance allowed the 30-year-old Russian to lead not only the scoring race among his compatriots, but also the overall scoring ranking of the North American league. On the Russian list, Kucherov pushed the Rangers to second position. Artemy Panarinaand the red striker broke into the top 3 Valery Nichushkin.

Following Frederik Andersen’s injury, Pyotr Kochetkov firmly established himself in Carolina’s squad. Yaroslav Askarov is in the top 5 in the league in terms of reliability (among goalkeepers who have played at least seven matches). Vadim Zherenko recently recorded his first shutout in the AHL and Georgy Romanov manages to play not only for the Barracuda, but also for Wichita.

In the AHL, the number of Russians who played this season increased from 32 to 36 people. Firstly, Vasily Ponomarev finally recovered from his injury and immediately went to travel around America. Since Carolina does not have a farm club this year, players must be distributed to other AHL teams. Ponomarev played two games for Tucson, after which he asked to go where he spent the previous year and a half: in Chicago. In mid-November, his request was granted and Vasily immediately began scoring points. He is already the team’s sixth scorer.

Secondly, defenseman Artyom Guryev, who began the season in the ECHL, made his AHL debut. After three games with the Barracuda, he returned to Wichita. Calgary forward Ilya Nikolaev spent the first month in the reserve, but once in the lineup he scored a goal on the move, scored points in four games in a row and has practically never left the team so far.

Defenseman Dmitry Osipov, who played in the United States his entire professional career, was in Hershey for a tryout, played three games and then signed a full deal through the end of the season. He plays a little, but, among other things, acts as a mentor to Ivan Miroshnichenko. Who managed to sit on the bench for a couple of games in November, but finished November strong, with a game-winning goal against Wilkes-Barry.

The top five Russian goal scorers in the AHL are the best on their teams. Gushchin, among other things, has already been called to the base and played two matches there. Maybe others will wait for the opportunity from him?

Gushchin’s teammate Nikita Okhotyuk also moved up and spent all of November in the NHL. In 13 games with the Sharks, he ranked fourth on the team in blocked shots (27) and sixth in power moves (23).

We also highlight the return of Vasily Podkolzin: after an injury, he has two assists in four games with Abbotsdorf.

Interesting developments took place in Canada’s youth leagues in November. A couple of days ago, forward Dianov made his OHL debut: he spent the beginning of the season in the Toronto youth league and in his first match he scored a goal for Niagara.

Additionally, Valentin Zhugin was transferred from Saginaw to Windsor, and Rangers prospect Maxim Barbashev didn’t have time to get used to Shawinigan before switching his registration to Rimouski. There, by the way, he was able to change the number from 89 to 49, in honor of his brother Ivan, a two-time Stanley Cup winner.

Let’s also mention Buffalo prospect Vsevolod Komarov. The defender is not only the team’s second assistant, but he also leads the Quebec league in penalty minutes! Plus, he’s never fought, he just plays really hard.

Anton Rubtsov and Nikita Nikora had the most successful month of November. The University of Alaska forward scored nine points in six games and took the lead among Russian players, ahead of Sardanyan and Suniev. Nikora has six points in five games in November, Tertyshny and Kabanov also scored the first points in the league.

The only Russian goalie in the NCAA, Sergeev did not record a single victory in November and his save percentage fell below 90.

There are nine Russians playing in America’s top junior hockey league: eight outfield players and one goaltender. At the beginning of the season things were going well for the Muskegon forward. Matvey Gridina. Since late October, the 17-year-old forward has averaged 1.5 points per game and ranks second in the league’s scoring race. Matvey spent November in a slightly more modest manner, which is why he dropped to third place in the ranking. However, his delay compared to the Swede Eric Palsson There are only three effective actions. In the Russian scoring race, Matvey has no competitors.

Interestingly, almost the same distribution of players was observed a month ago in the East Coast Hockey League, where at the end of October one Russian goaltender and eight skaters were participating. But in November Russian representation in the ECHL increased and reached a total of 13 people.

The last of the Russians to be involved was the former goalkeeper of the automobilist system. Georgy Romanov, who was demoted to the ECHL after not having the most successful games in the AHL. The 25-year-old Kansas forward is doing the best. Maxim Andreevwho ranks fourth in the league’s scoring career.
