For the first time since requesting a divorce from his wife Britney Spears, Sam Asghari has made a statement.
The model and fitness instructor, 29, addressed the couple’s recent breakup in a post on Instagram Stories on Thursday.
He made reference to their breakup by saying, “AFTER 6 YEARS OF LOVE AND COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER, MY WIFE AND I HAVE DECIDED TO END OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER.” “WE WILL HOLD ONTO THE LOVE AND RESPECT WE HAVE FOR EACH OTHER, AND I WISH HER THE BEST ALWAYS.”
“S— HAPPENS,” he added.
Asghari asked for discretion as well. “ASKING FOR PRIVACY SEEMS [RIDICULOUS], SO I WILL JUST ASK FOR EVERYONE… TO BE KIND AND THOUGHTFUL,” he continued.
BAC Talent’s Asghari rep Brandon Cohen also addressed the split rumors in a statement to PEOPLE.
“There are multiple allegations that Sam is contesting the prenuptial agreement and threatening to abuse his ex-wife with videos”; he said. “However, all of these claims are false as no negative intent has ever been directed against them and never will be. Sam has always supported her and will always support her.
A Spears representative did not respond to questions about the comments.
Spears, 41, hasn’t directly shared her thoughts on the breakup just yet. But just hours after PEOPLE announced that Asghari had filed for divorce on Wednesday, the singer released her first Instagram post announcing her plans to buy a horse.
“I’m going to buy a horse soon ????!!!”So many options, it’s pretty hard!!!” Spears shared with her 42 million followers that she posed on a horse. However, her ex-husband was not mentioned in the post.
A source exclusively told PEOPLE that the singer remains “in the best of spirits despite everything that’s going on.”
