It just seems that women have achieved a lot in politics, if we talk about them on a global scale. Yes, the names of the British “Iron Lady” Margaret Thatcher, the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Golda Meir, have gone down in history… But currently, only Thirteen women lead the 193 UN member countries, and in nine of them they came to power for the first time in history: for example, in Italy, Giorgia Meloni was elected head of government.

In general, the record is that 18 women are simultaneously at the head of power in different countries of the world, and perhaps next year it will be surpassed, since in some parts of the world new elections are planned and there are many women. among the favorites in the electoral race.

From Trump supporter to his competitor

Nikki Haley became famous in the United States after becoming governor of South Carolina in 2011. Then it was a shock for everyone: for the first time, not only a woman, but also a person of color was at the head of one of the more conservative states (Haley grew up in a family of Sikh immigrants).

And internationally, Haley became known when Trump appointed her to the position of permanent representative of the United States to the UN. The Permanent Representative was supposed to defend the interests of the United States during the four years assigned to her by law, but Haley resigned halfway through her term. Trump, like everyone else, was shocked: after all, Haley was one of his most loyal supporters. An even bigger surprise awaited her when she announced her candidacy for the presidency of the United States and began her election campaign.

Haley’s ratings are quite high, and if Trump, who is also running in the 2024 elections, is banned from participating in them, she has every chance of becoming the only candidate of the Republican Party. And since Democrats’ chances of winning after several years of Biden rule are very slim, Nikki Haley may become the next president of the United States.

If elected, we cannot expect any fundamental change in relations between Washington and Moscow: Haley has no particular sympathy for Russia and is aggressively opposed to any Russian initiatives.

In Mexico, for the first time, two older people will compete for the presidential office in 2024: the former mayor of the Mexican capital, Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum and former senator Xóchitl Gálvez. Sheinbaum has a big lead from the start and it is almost certain that she will win. Furthermore, she was officially proclaimed her successor by the current president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She even performed a symbolic ceremony to pass on power, for which Sheinbaum not only thanked her, but she also promised to continue the course set by the current head of state.

Mexicans are likely to vote for Sheinbaum. By the way, his Jewish ancestors came to Mexico from Lithuania and Bulgaria. There was a time when he exchanged his academic career for the world of politics. She is especially appreciated for the attention she pays to environmental protection: it was under her leadership that Mexico City, a multi-billion dollar city, became much cleaner.

feminist lady

Clementina Sukhanov has become a rising star on the Polish political horizon. In Poland itself, as well as throughout Europe, Sukhanov is well known as an active feminist, writer and publicist. But she only recently began to be considered a promising politician, after Poland’s Constitutional Court almost completely banned abortion. Sukhanov led a nationwide women’s strike, protesting against the draconian abortion law and the strict control of citizens’ lives by the Catholic Church.

Sukhanov and the feminist movement she leads did not participate as candidates in the recent general elections in Poland, but they intend to do so in the next ones. All this did not in any way affect the high rating of Clementine, who in Poland is considered one of the most promising politicians.

The Amazons are coming!

Nemonte Nenkimo never dreamed of becoming famous. His plans never included either big politics or friendship with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio. But today she is included among the most influential people in the world according to Time magazine, and in his native Ecuador everyone is confident that Nenquimo will become the country’s next president (elections are scheduled for 2025).

Nemonte herself says that she has the blood of warriors, because she is a representative of the Waorani indigenous people. And he wanted the simplest thing for her and her daughter: to live in the Amazon jungle. But in 2019 the Ecuadorian government sold the lands where the Huaorani tribe lives to oil companies. And Nenkimo took all his fellow tribesmen to court and filed a lawsuit against the cabinet of ministers. The case attracted the attention of environmental activists around the world and the court decided to satisfy the lawsuit.

Star of the left movement

Sarah Wagenknecht may become Germany’s second “Frau Chancellor” after Angela Merkel.

The photographs of Sarah Wagenknecht, born to a German mother and Iranian father, are worthy of fashion magazine covers. But Ella Wagenknecht gained incredible popularity by immersing herself in the world of politics. Sarah has been a star of the Left Party for a long time, but just a few weeks ago she left its ranks together with her like-minded comrades and announced the creation of the “Sarah Wagenknecht Union – for common sense and Justice”. “The main points of the union party program are the restoration of social justice and a peaceful foreign policy. Wagenknecht opposes the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine and is in favor of negotiations with Russia. From the first days of its creation, The new party has shown decent results: now sociologists predict that it will win 14 seats in the next parliament. But problems have begun and next year the Sarah Wagenknecht Union could become the shadow favorite in the parliamentary race, attracting votes of those who do not accept the policies of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but who do not want to vote for the far-right Alternative for Germany.
