“The unilateral expansion of borders in the Arctic is unacceptable and can only lead to an increase in tension,” the deputy told RIA Novosti.

Kharitonov stressed the need to demonstrate the geological identity of these territories.

“This is what Russia did at the time,” the deputy emphasized.

Let us remember that today it became known that the United States has expanded the continental shelf in an area of ​​strategic importance, which Russia and Canada also claim. The platform covers an area of ​​approximately one million square kilometers, mainly in the Arctic and the Bering Sea.

The State Department later clarified the publication of maps of the unilateral extent of the continental shelf. The document says it does not create territorial disputes with Russia, but will require an agreement with Canada and Japan.
