Ferrovial has agreed to sell its 50% stake in the car-sharing company Zity by Mobilize to its partner Grupo Renault, which already has the other 50% of this mobility company. Ferrovial, which does not disclose the import of the transaction, has made this decision to focus its investments on activities linked to its main activity, the development and operation of sustainable infrastructure, as reported in a statement.

Zity began its activity in Madrid in 2017, making 500 electric vehicles available to citizens. Subsequently, the company continued to grow, extending its presence to the cities of Paris, Lyon and Milan. Currently, it has more than 700,000 registered users and a fleet of 1,440 electric vehicles. Zity cars have traveled 18 million kilometers in 2022, avoiding the emission of 1,940 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Ferrovial and Renault joined forces at the time with the aim of offering an alternative mobility platform, promoting and developing new opportunities in the field of sustainable mobility and identifying trends that will provide added value to transport infrastructures. In 2022, Zity recorded a record turnover of 12.44 million euros, which represents an increase of almost 56% compared to the 7.99 million euros of its turnover in 2021. The company also experienced a 22% growth in the number of registered users and reached 610,000 clients at the end of that fiscal year between the four cities in which it operates.

“The Zity business together with Renault as a partner has offered us the opportunity to be in direct contact with the needs of users in the field of urban mobility. Having acquired this experience, we are going to advance in the development of other businesses that generate greater synergies with the construction and operation of large sustainable infrastructures,” said the CEO of Ferrovial Energy Infrastructures and Mobility, Gonzalo Nieto.

The COO of Mobilize Beyond Automotive, Matthieu Tenebaum, added that this change will be transparent for Zity customers, who he assures will continue to receive the same quality of service.
