The head of the association, Alexey Podshchekoldin, in an interview with Gazeta.ru, explained the possible decrease in the volume of “para-imports” due to the increased costs of logistics, customs clearance and difficulties with the maintenance of imported cars under this scheme.

“Despite the seemingly interesting trade story, many large official dealers have stopped parallel import. And most dealers will refuse it. The number of cars to be imported by parallel import in 2024 will be halved. But there is demand in this market, customers willing to buy Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi,” says Podshchekoldin.

However, one of the largest dealer groups in Russia announced new Volkswagen products for 2024.

According to the ROAD director, distributors have to deal with customs, certification, ERA-GLONASS installation, assume warranty obligations, but that’s not all: in 2024, the story of parallel imports may become commercially less attractive , since the authorities consider strengthening barriers to the import of cars, which is quite justified from the point of view of the development of production in the country.
