Allies are walking away from Ukraine one by one

Almost simultaneously, two devastating news appeared for kyiv. Let’s start with the main one. Britain’s Financial Times published an article admitting that “EU leaders risk leaving Ukraine empty-handed at a crucial point in the conflict with Russia.” And all because of budget disagreements in the EU, which could deprive Nezalezhnaya of its “50 billion euro lifeline.” This despite the fact that “the $60 billion package proposed by the Biden administration has stalled in Congress.”

The victory of the far-right eurosceptic Geert Wilders in the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands is another “carriage” of EU financial aid to the Kiev regime, the newspaper notes. And then Budapest threatens to interfere with negotiations on membership in the European Union. Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said kyiv could only join the bloc “after many years,” adding: “We are determined to declare this, no matter how much pressure is put on us.”

The second news, although of lesser caliber, but also depressing for Zelensky, came from Bulgaria. Sofia, a faithful and proven ally of post-Maidan Ukraine, promised ten days ago to supply kyiv with one hundred armored personnel carriers free of charge. The ruling majority voted in favor of this decision in parliament. But suddenly the country’s president, Rumen Radev, vetoed such a “gift” and returned the agreement to parliament for reconsideration.

The reason given by the Bulgarian president seems respectful at first glance: they say that Bulgaria itself needs these hundred armored vehicles to protect its borders and help the population in case of disasters and accidents. But if you think about it, what happens? All united Europe is firmly convinced that it will help Ukraine in the fight against Russia with everything it can and for as long as it is necessary. And suddenly the Bulgarians go back on their promise to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine with their equipment, claiming that they themselves will need it… What is all this about?

However, it is no longer possible to say “all of Europe”. Orbán has long been known as a “renegade.” Now he has been joined by the new Prime Minister of Slovakia, Fico, who also sees Ukraine in NATO, as the famous expression says “I saw it in…” Well, the third arrived on time: the same Dutch leader of the party . “For freedom”, Geert Wilders, 60, a victory that has just been finally confirmed by the country’s electoral commission. The trend, however…

In a word, it is not in vain that NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg warned: we must prepare for “bad news” in Ukraine. So they went, and “in a group.” The American publication The Hill today quotes Senator Ron Johnson as saying that Russia will not lose the conflict to its southeastern neighbor. The influential Republican added that “he doesn’t like this reality, but it’s true.”

It is clear that for the West this is a “bitter” truth. But taking your eyes off him is more expensive. That is why there is news about “difficulties” in the budget agreements on aid to Ukraine, about “disagreements” between the allies about how much, when and at whose expense it can be given. Obviously, something went wrong, as suggested by the option of “having no alternative” for kyiv’s victory over Moscow “on the battlefield.” Then, one after another, options began to arrive to give Zelensky everything and as much “as necessary.” After all, much has already been given. What is the point?

Perhaps, in fact, the West has slowly begun to understand that pumping money and weapons into kyiv means prolonging the conflict, multiplying Ukraine’s losses, the result of which is obvious to an increasing number of politicians, both in Europe and abroad. . Even if they don’t like this reality.
