Such a geographical flashmob in honor of the anniversary of the landing was proposed by the Russian public movement “Forest Volunteers”.

For the fifth consecutive year, the “Save the forest 2023” campaign is being carried out in support of the national “Ecology” project. For example, a large tree planting program was launched in the Luhansk People’s Republic. Work continued within the framework of humanitarian environmental missions in other territories of new regions.

And also in Crimea. The action became part of a long-term program to support the unique ecosystem of Crimea. “It will take a long time for the situation of forest ecology on the peninsula to reach a positive result. That is why we are now concentrating on giving life to a new forest. Hundreds of young trees are a significant contribution to the nature of the region,” he says. Olga Stepchenko, president of the Russian public movement “Forest Volunteers”.

The “Save the Forest” campaign has been running since 2019. Follow the website preservimles.rf. There is a map on which you will need to find your region. Click on the point and information will appear on the screen with the date, place and time of the next tree planting. True, this year there is only one point left: the Republic of Crimea, Mekenzievskoe forestry. More than 9,000 pine trees are planned to be planted here on December 7.

880 million trees

Forestry companies and companies in the wood industry. Some cut down the forest, others protect and restore it. Both are necessary and important. You just have to maintain a reasonable balance: no matter how much forests are cut down, the same amount should grow, and better yet, more.

The federal project “Forest Conservation”, which is part of the national project “Ecology”, helps to preserve and increase forest wealth. According to the head of Rosleskhoz, Ivan Sovetnikov, over the past two years, the area of restored forests has exceeded the area of dead and felled trees.

The federal project “Forest Conservation” will continue in 2024. The area of restored forests and afforestation will reach more than 1.55 million hectares. And about 880 million seedlings will be grown. Under the national project, forest nurseries are being developed, the amount of cultivated planting material is increasing, and volunteers are being involved in forest restoration activities. Local media reports on this.

A question of technology, but not only

The forest fund of the Saratov region this year reached its highest level in the last 20 years. An area of 3.8 thousand hectares was reforested and more than 15 million pine, oak, ash and acacia seedlings were planted.

This was largely made possible by the supply of forestry machinery and equipment: wheel tractors, seeders, cultivators, sprayers and plows. “Before the implementation of the national Ecology project, planting was carried out mainly by manual labor. If we had now continued to plant young forests in the old way, with the help of a shovel, we would not have planted so much. Technology helped us a lot. ”, recognizes Alexey Nikitin, director of the Cherkasy forestry company in the Volsky district.

But it’s not just about technology. Especially when, in addition to technical skills, irreplaceable human qualities are required: passion for work, teamwork and skillful hands. A typical example on this topic is given by the Saratov regional newspaper “The Fourth Estate”. In the Balashovsky district, students, schoolchildren and volunteers planted more than 2,000 pine seedlings in the local forest.

From the good seed

The success of forest restoration depends largely on the quantity and quality of seeds and seedlings. Seed centers and forest districts throughout the country are involved in the cultivation of forest planting material. And volunteers help them with this.

Thus, members of the Kedr forestry school in the village of Angoya, in the Republic of Buryatia, planted cedar seeds on the school grounds this fall. There has been a cedar nursery here for more than 10 years; The school’s forestry department is actively involved in growing and caring for seedlings. “We are learning to take care of a new forest. It is fantastic that after a while, thanks to us, new trees grow. Every year we observe the growth of the seedlings and see how they change and grow,” said Konstantin Sharpov, a member of the forestry department. from school.

Schoolchildren plant cedars grown in the northern Baikal region, including in the Khakusy area, where several years ago most of the cedar forests burned down due to fires.

No fires!

Forest fires are a big problem. Restoring burned forests requires spending a lot of resources and reserves and, most importantly, time. It is much cheaper to prevent a fire than to deal with its destructive consequences. The newspaper “Rybinskiy Izvestia” reported how this type of preventive work is carried out in the Yaroslavl region.

Here, during the fire season, mobile groups constantly patrolled the forests. The state institution “Forest Guard” has developed 236 patrol routes with a total length of 19,723 kilometers. In addition, the state of the forests was monitored using video and spatial surveillance systems.

90 people and 122 teams were trained to extinguish forest fires. The Ministry of Emergency Situations assigned about 240 more people and 75 units. To prevent the fire from moving from surrounding areas to populated areas, mineralized fire-fighting strips were installed. “The main cause of forest fires is traditionally the human factor. That is why it is necessary to intensify preventive work with the population,” says Artem Molchanov, vice president of the regional government.

Sometimes it is necessary to resort to stricter measures, as reported by the Crimean Pravda newspaper. The only way to avoid inevitable fires is to completely prohibit visiting forests during the entire fire danger period. The ban did not only affect careless and irresponsible tourists, those who like to drink “cognac with a barbecue” in the lap of nature. This also affected those who carry out seasonal and logging work, during which the use of open fire is allowed in forests and natural ecosystems. The burning of logging waste and garbage, dry grass and household waste, as well as agricultural burning and gas welding work, were also prohibited.

In 2024, economic damage caused by forest fires will be reduced by 19.8 billion rubles compared to 2018. This is one of the goals of the national project “Ecology”.
