On November 27, Vladimir Mashkov celebrated his 60th birthday. By that time, the charismatic artist and favorite of the female audience had played dozens of brilliant roles in films (“Thief”, “Russian Riot”, “Mama”, “Oligarch”) and television series (“Ashes”, “Liquidation” ) and theater (“The Bumbarash Passion”, “The Sailor’s Silence”, “The Inspector General”), he even tried his luck in Hollywood (“Dancing on the Blue Iguana”, “Mission: Impossible”). She now dedicates almost all of her time to the full management (and work on productions) of the Tabakov Theater, although for a time she limited herself to filming, however, for the podcast “Creative Industries” (Channel One) on Podcast. In the LAB series, she made an exception and came to talk to the presenters – PFKI director Roman Karmanov and producer Elena Kiper. “KP” offers excerpts from a confidential conversation.

ABOUT PARENTS
“I lost my parents early. She was 22 years old when they died one after another. In general, I am a late bloomer, I was born in 1963. My mother is from 1925, and my father is from 1923. And, of course, this left its mark. The beginning of my creative activity, when you want to share everything with those who understand you and believe in you, and your parents pass away. It was a great internal trauma: when you realize that there are no people who can be proud of you.”
ON SERIOUS ILLNESSES
“When I was a child I became seriously ill (at the age of six I suffered from meningitis – Ed.), I was in the hospital for a long time and, apparently, I had to leave this world. My parents were not allowed to visit me; I only saw them from the window. I was in the first floor room for about four months. Still. And when everything started to get better, it became clear that I had forgotten how to walk and move in general. My mother, who works with children’s dolls, brought me the Buratino puppet to the hospital (Natalya Ivanovna Nikiforova, the mother of the future star, had three higher educations and worked as a director in a puppet theater – Ed.). And she said, “You control his pace, but you also take the step.” And this principle (when you teach, learn yourself) worked. “In the end I started walking.”
ABOUT CHARACTER
Photo: still from the film.
“Perseverance is a trait that I grew up with in the city of Novokuznetsk (the artist was born in Tula, but spent his childhood in Novokuznetsk, where his parents worked – Author). Looking at my parents, I understood that I had to show them something in the future. And in general, in the team, among friends and colleagues, leadership qualities were valued. It seems to me that the city influences human psychology. I had the desire to present myself to the world, to declare myself widely and loudly. And I have defined for myself the understanding of inner harmony: this is when three qualities come together: I want, I can and I must.”
ABOUT THE CHIEF TEACHER
Oleg Tabakov and Vladimir Mashkov.

“I ended up with Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov (in Tabakerka and then at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater – Ed.), having succeeded at the Novosibirsk Theater School. I really wanted to get his attention. I wanted to hear praise and hope for the future from him. And he was quite stingy with words of support. For three years I waited for Tabakov to praise me. This was his tactic. And I really wanted him to see my enthusiasm, desire, love for this activity. The result was unexpected. It seemed to me that it bothered him… And at the end of the third year, Tabakov suddenly offered me the role of Abram Ilyich Schwartz (the play “The Sailor’s Silence”), which was played before me by the greatest Evgeniy Aleksandrovich Evstigneev. .”
