Russia implements a mandatory annual medical check-up for workers

In a notable move in the field of occupational health, Russia will introduce a policy of mandatory annual medical check-ups for its workers starting in 2024. As announced by Tatiana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, this initiative seeks to improve access to medical care for the country’s active population.

The new program, which takes effect next year, will involve workers undergoing employee-funded health checks. These examinations may be carried out both in medical facilities provided by the companies and in local health centers, following specific contractual agreements.

In line with the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of the Family” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the program incorporates a specialized reproductive health exam for men and women. Gólikova highlighted the importance of this component, given the Russian government’s involvement in family and reproductive health issues.

The mandatory annual medical checkup in Russia is an effort to ensure that all workers receive preventive medical care. This includes general checkups and age- and gender-specific exams, with a particular emphasis on reproductive health.
