Nababkin put the ball into his own goal. The Muscovites were saved only with an assist from Faizullaev.

“Rostov” and CSKA lined up, if not in second place, then at least with one and a half teams in the Russian Cup. As a result, the game turned out to be quite difficult (including due to the weather). The home team created more opportunities, but could not win at home.

Although Rostov scored from the beginning of the match. More precisely, CSKA defender Nababkin scored an own goal. In fact, the opportunity was created by the hosts’ only foreign player, Mokhebi, who usually plays on the left, but this time he came out on the right flank. The Iranian quickly passed Moisés and made a cross that Nababkin could not deal with.

The start of the match was in the hands of Rostov, who pressed high and had several more opportunities. And in the 28th minute, CSKA forward Dávila surprised by receiving a surprising yellow card. When the game stopped, the Chilean didn’t even throw the ball aside, but instead knocked it out. These types of yellow cards are periodically issued by the judges, but the strange thing is that it made no sense for the CSKA player to buy time.

And yet, CSKA found something to answer. Faizullaev, who has been highly praised lately, crossed from a free kick and Zabolotny headed the ball towards the goal. The shot ended up right next to the Rostov goalkeeper, but Medvedev had little chance to react to the powerful shot launched several meters away.

During the break, both teams made changes, but the game did not become more dynamic. Quite the opposite. Although Akbashev had a good chance in the 57th minute, he hit with one touch and the ball went inches over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Akbashev himself got it right, but right at the goalkeeper.

The most striking thing after the break was the expulsion of Moisés, who touched the ball with his hand (apparently by accident), interrupting Komlichenko’s approach to the goal. The main referee Levnikov missed this moment, but the VAR prompted him. Here two trends came together at once: eliminations in all matches of today’s Russian Cup and CSKA’s bad second halves. The latter is usually associated with the limited choice among substitute players. CSKA didn’t even have the completed registration form for the match (two empty seats on the bench).

“Rostov” could not put pressure on the opponent by majority: 1:1. The return match in Moscow will take place almost three and a half months later, on March 12, 2024.
