According to experts, the ultimate goal of Annabelle Morozov and Igor Eremenko is to perform under the French flag.

A little over a month ago, Annabel Morozov suffered a very unpleasant injury during the warm-up before the start of the Grand Prix stage in Krasnoyarsk. Then, before the rhythmic dance, she collided with Elizaveta Shanaeva and received a fairly deep cut. Withdrawal from the tournament, reinstatement, lost stage in Moscow…

Now the life of the Morozov/Eremenko couple is changing dramatically: it seems that they left coaching and returned to the USA, and perhaps there will be an attempt to change their sports citizenship. “Championship” collects everything that is known about it.

Morozov and Eremenko began collaborating with Anzhelika Krylova in the summer; Information about this appeared at the end of June. In an interview with RT, Morozov noted that they chose a coach in Russia together with his partner and his father, and Krylova responded to the offer to work together. At the same time, Annabelle emphasized that her dad wants to be a dad, not a coach. “He told us directly. That he is willing to support us and help us in every way possible, but he is no longer willing to constantly accompany us as a coach,” said the figure skater.

It is only fitting that the couple would find a mentor in Russia, since traveling from the United States to local competitions several times a year would be very difficult. Annabelle’s previous partner, David Narizhny, was not ready to go to train in the United States and the duo split up. In Krylova’s group, Morozov and Eremenko had comfortable conditions: they became the main adult couple of the coach after the breakup of Vasilisa Kaganovskaya / Valery Angelopol, the group moved to the new Crystal skating rink.

During the 2023/24 season, the couple did not plan to return to the United States and wanted to spend at least a year on the coaching staff. However, three weeks before the Russian Championship, information was received that Annabelle and Igor would move abroad, where they began to move at the beginning of this year.

The farewell, according to RIA Novosti, took place in a rather chaotic manner: the skaters arrived at training with a bouquet and said that they planned to leave in three hours. Now, according to the agency, the athletes are no longer in Russia.

Along with the news of Krylova’s departure, there was also inside information about the couple’s willingness to change their sports citizenship. According to RIA Novosti, Morozov and Eremenko are considering this option and could swap Russia for France.

Moreover, according to the original plan, as the agency writes, Morozov/Eremenko planned to do this, if necessary, after the Russian Championship.

Information about the desire to change citizenship was indirectly confirmed by Tatyana Tarasova in an interview with Match TV: “It is logical that they want to play for France, she is French. I heard they want to change. They should have done this a long time ago. But it’s a shame to lose a couple like that.”

Earlier this summer, The Skating Lesson project reported that Annabel Morozov was denied a change of sports citizenship by the FFKKR, while Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin were granted release to the Georgia national team.

Then Nikolai Morozov, in a conversation with TASS, denied this information: “We did not ask permission from the FFKKR to transfer Annabelle and Igor to another team. Now the boys are preparing for the skating tests that will take place in September in Moscow and they are not going to change their plans.”

I wonder how the situation has changed now and how easily Annabelle and Igor will be released if the couple decides to change their citizenship. This season they have not played any tournaments, neither Morozov nor Eremenko are in the Russian team.

Annabelle’s last competitive performance was in November 2022 at the Russian Grand Prix in Kazan, and Igor’s was even earlier: he resumed his sporting career to partner with Annabelle. Will performing through pain in rhythmic dance in Krasnoyarsk on the stage of the Russian Grand Prix become an obstacle? Time will tell.
