The project was implemented on the basis of Russia’s largest lamb processing plant in Cherkessk, opened in September 2022. The production area of semi-finished products and marinades is 430 square meters. The products are produced on three automated lines, including minced meat, sausages, cutlets and kebab. In addition, all products have their own special “character” – they are certified according to Halal standards.

With the opening of the new enterprise, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic becomes one of the leading regions of the North Caucasus, where sheep breeding, as well as meat processing and wool production, are actively developing.

– For many families in the republic, sheep breeding is a deep-rooted traditional activity: does it have a high potential for growth of the agro-industrial complex of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic through the introduction of modern technologies? in the field of genetics, reproduction, fattening and product processing,” said the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic, Anzor Botáshev.

According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, farms of all categories in Karachay-Cherkessia currently contain more than 1.2 million heads of sheep and goats.

To prevent the degeneration of breeds, a project for the genetic renewal of local species of small ruminants is being carried out in the region at the expense of a private investor. For this purpose, a selection and genetics center for sheep breeding is being built in the Stavropol region. It includes embryo laboratories, artificial insemination stations and a quarantine area for 3,000 animals. The total investment in the project is 1.1 billion rubles.

In addition, to increase the genetic potential of small ruminants, Karachay-Cherkessia farmers received 137 heads of purebred sheep of foreign selection: Charolais, Poldorset, Ile de France, Swifter, Texel, Zvartbles and blue-faced Leicester. The breeding animals came from France, Holland, Great Britain and Germany. All sheep are included in the international SIGNET database, which contains comprehensive information on highly productive breeds from all over Europe.

“The selection work will improve the meat characteristics of local breeds: carcass quality, weight, slaughter performance and fertility of sheep,” said the Ministry of Agriculture of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic. Young animals born as a result of crossing have a number of advantages compared to traditional breeds bred in the North Caucasus: the animals gain weight quickly, have greater endurance and are characterized by low feed conversion, i.e. with same volumes of feed consumption. As the original sheep reproduce, animals of the selected breeds receive greater weight gain.

In addition to the sheep meat project, pilot projects for the deep processing of domestic merino wool are being successfully implemented in the region. .

With the opening of a new enterprise, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic becomes one of the main regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, where sheep breeding and meat processing are actively developing.
