Carlos Alosen is back! The young Real Madrid talent has been absent for almost two years

Almost 21 months later, Real Madrid point guard Carlos Alosen, 22, returned to the field after an injury that threatened his entire career. This happened in a match that was played within the framework of the Spanish Championship, against Andorra. The basketball player played seven minutes and scored one point with three rebounds. Obviously, a player will need a lot of time to adjust after missing almost two years of his career, especially at a fairly important age where players develop and learn new things quickly.

Carlos suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in February 2022 in a match against Málaga. The initial prognosis was that he would be able to return after seven months, but during his recovery Alosen suffered a relapse, which kept him deprived of basketball for more than a year.

The player showed great promise since his teenage years and was one of the most promising young players in Europe. Let us remember the history of his performances and achievements.

The Zaragoza native began his professional career in his hometown. His debut occurred in October 2016, when he was not yet 16 years old. He established himself back in August of that year, being part of the Spanish under-16 team in the European Championship in Poland, where he managed to win gold.

However, he began to get regular playing time in the adult category in the 2018/2019 season. He played an average of 14 minutes, scoring 5.3 points and 2.3 assists, showing a respectable level of long-distance shooting: 40%. He also received the award for best young player of the tournament. In 2019, as a member of the under-20 team, he managed to win silver at the European Youth Championship in Israel. He went there even though he made his debut with the senior team in February.

The young player’s successes did not go unnoticed and, after his first full season at senior level, he signed a contract with Los Blancos, but remained on loan at his parent club for another season. His prominence has increased, averaging 20 minutes, 7.2 points and 3.4 assists.

Real Madrid did not place the player in the reserves, but from the first season they provided him with time in both the Euroleague and the national championship. He averaged about 13 minutes in all tournaments, but the Spaniard’s performance dropped to 4-5 points per game. Player efficiency has also decreased: less than 30% from long range and less than 45% accuracy on all shots.

In the 2021/2022 season, Alosen began to receive a little less time. That player, who was supposed to become a future standout in the defense of the giants of European basketball after the departure of Sergio Llull and Sergio Rodríguez, ended up going through great problems, and it all ended with a terrible injury.

In one way or another, the Madrid entity continued and continues to believe in the player. Proof of this is that Real extended the contract with Carlos until the end of the 2024/2025 season, long before his return. So Alosen has almost two seasons to not only get his game back on track, but also to prove that he is someone the organization can look forward to in the future. In the coming years, Madrid will need to rejuvenate the squad and decide which players will determine the future of the Club. This also applies to the point guard position, let’s not forget that Facundo Campazzo is already 32 years old.
