Line exposes data of its customers and employees after a cyber attack

The well-known messaging application LINE has suffered a serious cyberattack. This digital incursion has resulted in the exposure of personal information of approximately 400,000 customers, including users and company employees.

Z Holdings’ merger with Yahoo Japan and LINE Corporation in October led to the creation of LY Corporation. Recently, the company revealed that malware infiltrated the system of an outsourced employee of Naver Cloud Corporation, its subsidiary in South Korea, triggering the vulnerability.

This security incident, which occurred on October 9, allowed external agents to access the internal system used by the former LINE Corporation. The compromised system, shared with Naver, is equipped with a common authentication protocol that handles data from both employees and other users.

The exposed data includes full names, email addresses and employee identification numbers, among other personal details. So far, it has not been confirmed whether the security breach expanded its reach to bank accounts or the contents of conversations held through the LINE application.
