According to the lead author of this study, Karen-Inge Karstoft of the University of Copenhagen, she did not expect that so many Ukrainians would want to stay in Denmark. “This was a big surprise for us,” RIA Novosti quotes the expert.
Karstoft believes that the reluctance of these people to return home could have been influenced by the prolonged fighting, while many of the refugees had already managed to establish a new life in Denmark. In addition, the restoration of Ukraine will take a long time, so the idea of staying seems attractive to Ukrainians, the scientist noted.
Danmarks Radio reminds you that the special regime for Ukrainians expires on March 17, 2025. After this date, they will have to return to their country of origin unless they receive asylum or a residence permit.
