Yuran brought Karpin to boring football. But one mistake changed everything.

“Rostov” defeated “Paris NN” thanks to penalties.

It is difficult to say how Rostov prepared for the match against Paris NN, while Valery Karpin was in the Russian national team, but from the first minutes of today’s match of the 16th round of the RPL it seemed that the hosts did not understand how to open the rich and dense defense of Nizhny Novgorod. Sergei Yuran’s team calmly defended with a medium and low block using their favorite 5-3-2 formation, expecting rare counterattacks. The new goalkeeper of the Russian national team, Nigmatullin, was resting in the goal: the ball did not reach the center forward Komlichenko (0 touches in the foreign area during the half), since the Rostovites lacked speed and creativity.

But Nigmatullin’s colleague from Rostov also had no job. By the way, Medvedev took his place in the goal of Karpin’s team for the first time in this RPL season. But another candidate for the Russian national team sat on the bench, the Rostovites’ seemingly stalwart number one, Pesyakov. Southerners goalkeeping coach Vitaly Kafanov said “maybe we need to give Sergei a break.” And so, he gave in in the match against Paris NN. This is a logical decision, because the mistake in the previous round with Spartak was at least Pesyakov’s third in the current championship.

Karpin and Yuran in the ranking of the best RPL coaches:

Classification

Best coach of the first round of the RPL

In general, if any of the coaches seemed satisfied with the course of the first half, it was Juran. With 72% ball possession, Rostov not only did not create any chances, but did not even have a shot on goal. We had to wait 37 minutes before the break to receive the first blow: it was struck by Paris midfielder NN Kalinsky from 23-25 meters. He simply warmed up Medvedev, who, however, did not immediately catch a seemingly simple ball. Then Mironov, a resident of Rostov, delivered a blocked blow from approximately the same distance. When Karpin and Yuran’s teams went to half-time, fans probably thought that it was not necessary to sell tickets for the first half. Or with a very large discount.

The most surprising thing is that during the break it was Yuran, and not Karpin, who immediately made a triple change. Perhaps the departure of Stotsky and Kalinsky from the field was solely due to the yellow cards that these players were hanging on, and Boscella still does not have the same magic in his legs as Sevikyan. But I can’t say that the changes have changed the game much. The residents of Rostov lit a fire, and those of Nizhny Novgorod put it out. However, in the 55th minute, a shot from Kakkoev gave Komlichenko a big moment: the center forward wasted his first chance and first scoring chance of the game.

The wake-up call for Rostov’s defense seemed to wake up the teams’ forwards. The locals increased their speed and got a penalty at the end of the game. The fresh Shnaptsev played carelessly in his own area: he wanted to take the ball, but he hit Bayramyan with his head on the back of the head. This is a penalty, and don’t go to Varov’s team. Osipenko shot from the point at mid-height, Nigmatullin’s hand reached the ball, but the stop did not occur.

After one Armenian player, another could have scored. “Paris NN” raised the lines and finally the forward of the Yuran team found the ball in the rival area. Sevikyan was in the right place at the right time and shot into the far corner, but Edgar was unlucky: he hit the post!

But in the end Paris NN did not create anything near Medvedev’s goal, except Shnaptsev’s shot, which the goalkeeper had to deflect. Nizhny Novgorod did not have enough ideas, individual skill of the players, and Rostov, who failed the most in the first round of the RPL, this time defended reliably. Karpin’s team won a dry victory. And the shooting statistics in the end turned out to be more or less decent: 10:6 (on goal – 3:2, from the penalty area – 5:1).
