CCOO has called off part of the Amazon workers’ strike scheduled for November 27 and 28. According to a statement issued by the union, the strike at Amazon Spain Logistics, the division in charge of providing storage, collection, packaging and order management activities for customers and suppliers.

However, they have also reported that the strike at Amazon Road Transport Spain, which provides logistics and distribution services, continues, since they consider that the business proposal “does not cover the minimum needs of the staff”, so the considered “insufficient.”

This concludes, in part, the pressure that union representatives have been exerting on Amazon during the past week, in which they have threatened to carry out a partial strike to which 20,000 employees had been called in the middle of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday campaign.

Finally, services at the company’s plants will not suffer any downtime, having reached an agreement. As highlighted by the union sources in the statement, the pact includes the implementation of a new Work Accident Management procedure, improving the means and resources for the support and response of the payroll management service, in addition to more measures to reduce payroll incidents and resolution of serious cases of payroll incidents with prompt payment in 5 days. Improvements in remuneration have been left out of the negotiation, as highlighted.

On the other hand, the partial stoppages called by the logistics section, in which the majority of workers work, will continue in the last hour of work of each shift, between 00:01 on November 27, 2023 and 02 .00 on November 28, 2023.

Representation in centers

Amazon lacks a national works council and a specific collective agreement with the working conditions negotiated with the union representation, which has caused, as the unions have explained to EFE, that the circumstances of the workers are different depending on the province. in which they live.

Union representation, therefore, goes through workplaces, in which company committees are formed, while working conditions are governed by provincial collective agreements for Logistics and Transportation.

According to union sources, Amazon operates its centers in Spain through two companies: one in which the smallest city centers are brought together and another, with large logistics spaces.

In the case of the former, about 6 out of 25 have union representation, while in the latter, where most of the staff work, the figure increases to around 11 out of 14.

In total, the company has 11 unions, among which CCOO is the majority, with 44%, followed by UGT and CGT.

At the end of 2022, Amazon had about 22,000 permanent workers in Spain, with the aim of raising the figure to 25,000 before the end of 2026, and around 40 facilities, after opening new operations centers in places such as Zaragoza or Girona, according to your own data.
