A nightmare that you will want to forget quickly. Absolutely Alexander and his team’s worst game of the season.

Edmonton entered the game against Washington as one of the worst teams of the season. The Oilers were third from bottom in the NHL standings. During the meeting with the Capitals, the Oilers fell to penultimate position, all thanks to Chicago’s victory in the parallel game.

Washington, on the other hand, began to emerge from a prolonged crisis. The Capitals reeled off five straight wins and looked more confident than usual.

Why doesn’t Ovechkin score, but Washington still wins?

The beginning of the game, however, was shocking for the capital’s residents. Edmonton quickly took the initiative and opened the scoring in the 15th minute. León Draisaitl carried the puck down the right flank and passed it into the gap. There Evander Kane put meat in the goal (1:0).

A minute later, Washington took another hit. Connor McDavid ran behind the goal and lofted it into the box. The puck rose into the air and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, all alone, “shot” poor Charlie Lindgren. The judges decided to review the episode: suddenly, the Edmonton forward raised his stick too much. However, the referees counted the goal: 2:0!

At that point, Washington’s players began to lose their nerve. It all started with the team’s captain, Alexander Ovechkin. Late in the first period, the forward attempted to use force against Oilers defenseman Vincent Dearne. The Edmonton hockey player managed to dodge it, causing Ovechkin to crash into the protective glass.

The episode also apparently upset the Capitals’ captain. At the same time as the siren sounded, the conflict continued. Ovechkin argued with Deharne and hit him in the face with his cane. The Russian immediately apologized to his opponent, but the judges were adamant: two minutes per game with the high stick.

The second half continued to disappoint the capital’s fans. In the 24th minute, Evan Bouchard received the puck from McDavid at the blue line and scored forcefully to make it 3:0.

Only 64 seconds passed and the score was 4:0. McDavid himself passed the position to Draisaitl, the German turned around and “shot” Lindgren. Washington’s defense decided to put all the work on the goaltender tonight.

The goalkeeper did his best. In the 36th minute he demonstrated it again by running frantically towards Draisaitl when he was in a one-on-one situation. Lindgren threw himself at León’s feet, preventing the forward’s attack. True, at the same moment the goalkeeper knocked down Ovechkin. But I made a save.

However, at the end of the second half Lindgren could no longer help. After McDavid’s pass, the puck bounced into the box and Draisaitl was the quickest to get his bearings. 5:0 from the outsider of the league in 39 minutes!

Fans on social media were beside themselves over the disappointing performance of the Capitals and their top leader.

“Is Ovechkin literally crying because he missed Vinny during a power move?”

“Ovechkin is a whiny crybaby.”

“I’m glad they didn’t fight. I don’t know if the Oilers can afford to trade Ovechkin for Dearne!

“Ovechkin apologizes after hitting Vinny. He seems to me after I hit my brother and asked him not to tell his mother.”

“Don’t forget about Ovechkin’s stupid dismissal. Everything after the mermaid!

“I’m afraid Ovechkin would have given up.”

“Ovechkin can’t even skate anymore and people still think he’s going to beat the ’99 record.”

“Ovechkin didn’t save hockey, but he’s doing everything he can to save the Oilers’ season.”

Ovechkin is a “beast”, but shorter than Hasek? In the United States they named Ovi’s exact place in hockey history.

At the beginning of the third period, Ovi was still able to score, immediately after Kuznetsov’s throw-in. But he was not even happy: the goal was not counted due to a violation of the throw-in procedure.

As a result, the nightmare ended for both Ovechkin and Washington. A terrible match that everyone will want to forget. Everyone except the finally jubilant Edmonton fans.
