In 1945, tens of thousands of tons of chemical munitions sank in the Baltic Sea. Russian scientists estimate that the arsenal at the bottom is several thousand tons of mustard gas.

Most of the chemical weapons were sunk in the area of ​​the islands of Gotland and Bornholm.
