Eight years ago, Katniss Everdeen invaded the Capitol and ended the tyranny of Coriolanus Snow. The death of the manipulator did not make the inhabitants of Panem happy and upset many fans.

Still, the character was brilliant, menacing and memorable; It is not surprising that one day the writer Suzanne Collins returned to the universe and invented a prequel about Snow’s youth. She formed the basis of the film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds.”

Often these spin-offs are a nightmare for fans, but that is not our case. The new film contains little of the actual battle itself, but in terms of drama and plot it surpasses all the Mockingjay films.

“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds”: where to watch?

Unofficial screenings have already started in Russian cinemas. The film will be released digitally on December 19.

The video is available on the YouTube channel “Red Head Sound – Translation and Voiceover”. The rights to the video belong to Lionsgate.

Coriolanus Snow Wasn’t Always a Villain

Are you used to seeing Snow as a guy with a gray beard? Forget this image. In “The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds” we see an energetic young man who surprises with intelligent thoughts and ideas of humanism. Unfortunately, at the beginning, Peter Dinklage’s character presents Coriolanus and his companions with a devastating test.

The fact is that 10 years have passed since the Capitol’s victory over the rebels. All this time, the president was organizing the Hunger Games, but due to his primitive approach, no one was interested in them. Snow and his comrades become mentors and take on the difficult task of making the massacre popular. It is our heroes who are little by little turning The Hunger Games into a spectacle in which participants give interviews and viewers make donations to their favorites.

If Coriolanus is successful, he will ensure a great future for himself and his loved ones. But he cannot fully devote himself to the task: all because of his stoked feelings for his ward Lucy. This lady is weak and she is condemned to death, but how sweet she is and how beautifully she sings.

Snow wants Lucy to survive, so he curses the tournament, breaks the rules, takes risks, and generally behaves like a true hero. Don’t worry that all this doesn’t fit with the family image. The film runs 2.5 hours: enough time to confront Coriolanus with life’s nightmares and break his character. The slow transformation of a young nobleman into a tyrant is the heart of the film.

It’s nice to see an energetic young man shining with kindness and then turning into a monster. Coriolanus is many times more interesting than the unfortunate Katniss. Jennifer Lawrence is good as the pawn who accidentally starts a revolution, but Mr. Snow is on another level. He is an ambiguous character and a charismatic master of the situation. He evokes more emotions in one film than Jay does in four.

Coriolanus is the main star, but he is surrounded by equally interesting characters. Singer Lucy, played by Rachel Zegler, is incredibly sweet and really worth the risk. The game’s director (Viola Davis) immediately becomes annoyed by her unscrupulousness and cruelty. The heroes’ mentor, played by Peter Dinklage, steals the show in every frame. Sister Snow (Euphoria’s Hunter Schaefer) becomes a good compass, indicating that the hero is lost. Naturally, there are no questions for such a distribution.

How the Hunger Games Improved Under President Snow

Movies with Jennifer Lawrence have taught us that the Hunger Games are epic events with different biomes and difficult challenges. They only became this way under President Snow: in “The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds,” the characters are simply thrust into a modest arena, in the middle of which lie daggers and clubs.

Another nuance is that the war has just ended and the districts have not yet started training fighters for the games. That’s why the participants seem more like vagabonds than warriors. And don’t forget that the heroine Lucy may have come from the same district as Katniss, but she doesn’t know how to shoot.

As a result, the Hunger Games become a bloody and ruthless, but still intimate fight. If you were expecting an epic battle in the spirit of the first parts, you will be disappointed.

Is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds worth watching?

The new film will appeal to audiences who loved The Hunger Games for its interesting world and colorful characters. But the battles and survival in The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds are noticeably worse.

The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds has a score of 7.5 out of 10.

Appreciated

It’s more interesting to follow Snow than Katniss. The film has a luxury cast and the script immerses you perfectly in the world of Panem.

I dont like him

The Hunger Games themselves were too intimate.
