India’s Pragyan lunar rover, the first spacecraft to land on the Moon’s south pole, completed a two-week research and experiment program, after which it was placed on standby, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said.

Lunokhod completed his tasks. It is now safely parked and placed on standby,” ISRO said in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The battery is fully charged. The solar panel is focused on receiving light for the next sunrise, scheduled for September 22, 2023. The receiver remains on,” said the Indian space agency, expressing hope that the rover will be successfully awakened to carry out new experiments.

The Pragyan lunar rover was delivered to the surface of the Moon on August 23 as part of the Indian Chandrayan-3 mission in the Vikram descent module, named after the famous scientist Vikram Sarabhai, considered the father of Indian astronautics.

According to ISRO chief Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, during his stay on the moon, Pragyan traveled 100 m. During the survey, the lunar rover found sulfur, aluminum, iron, calcium, chromium, titanium, manganese, oxygen and silicon.
