In a statement, Hamas said, “The Islamic Resistance Movement has appointed Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar as the head of its political wing.” He succeeded the martyred Commander Ismail Haniya. May Allah forgive him (Hania).’

Ismail Haniya was assassinated in Tehran, Iran on July 31. Israel is believed to have killed him. Although the country did not comment on this.

Sinwar was the most important Hamas leader in the war-torn Gaza Strip until he took over. He was the head of the armed wing of the organization.

It was not confirmed whether Sinwar will perform his previous duties in addition to the new duties. He has not been seen in public since the start of the Israeli offensive on Gaza. However, he is believed to be in Gaza.

Sixty-one-year-old Sinwar was identified as the mastermind behind the unprecedented attack in southern Israel on October 7.
