Santos’ expulsion from Congress “sets a terrible precedent for the future,” he wrote on social media.

Ramaswami noted that he considers Santos a “pathological liar,” RIA Novosti reports. However, he added, the decision about whether Santos should serve in Congress rests with voters, and allegations of fraud must be tried in court.

“This opens a Pandora’s box that will definitely be used,” emphasized the presidential candidate.

Recall that in October, George Santos was charged with 10 new counts of fraud. He was accused, among other things, of exaggerating his campaign finance reports and of withdrawing money from donors’ credit cards without authorization. In early May, Santos pleaded not guilty to 13 charges.

Last Friday, the US House of Representatives voted to strip him of his powers. 311 legislators voted in favor and 114 against. Santos became the first US congressman in 20 years to have his powers stripped.
