Boycott Aquaman 2” is trending online, prompting some fans to wonder why. Here is what you need to know about people boycotting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Why are people boycotting Aquaman 2?

Moviegoers appear to have lost interest in DCEU movies due to superhero fatigue and because of the fact that the universe will soon be rebooted. This has been combined with the drama surrounding Amber Heard, who plays Mera in the movie.

Due to Amber Heard’s controversies and the very public trial involving her ex-husband Johnny Depp, fans of the latter have refused to watch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Despite the fact that Heard’s role as Mera has reportedly been highly diminished, and she isn’t a major part of the film’s marketing either, people still appear to be boycotting the movie entirely.

Why do people want Amber Heard recast in Aquaman 2?

People want Amber Heard to be recast in Aquaman 2 because of the drama surrounding her and Johnny Depp.

The petition to recast Amber Heard’s Mera has been going on for several years and it has over 4.6 million signatures at the moment of writing. Ever since Johnny Depp was let go of his role in Fantastic Beasts 3, many of his fans campaigned to get Mera recast as well.

Despite this, Amber Heard still plays Mera in Aquaman 2, though she reportedly won’t appear as much as she did in the first movie. This is apparently due to the needs of the narrative, rather than being influenced by the court case or any other external factors.

It’s unclear if Amber Heard will appear again in any Warner Bros. superhero movies as Mera or any other characters.

Aquaman 2 releases on December 20, 2023. For more updates, check out why Ben Affleck’s scene was cut from the film. Also, learn more about Black Manta.
