Gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the Brazilian volleyball team, former center Walewska died on Thursday night, in São Paulo. According to people close to the athlete, the cause of death is unknown. The player was 43 years old and had been retired since the end of the 2021/2022 season, when she played for Praia Clube de Uberlândia.

Champion throughout her career, Walewska was born in Belo Horizonte and began her journey in the sport at the age of 12 when she passed a test at Minas Tênis Clube, a traditional club in the capital of Minas Gerais. In volleyball, the athlete passed through Minas, Rio de Janeiro, São Caetano, Perugia, Murcia, Odintsovo, Vôlei Futuro, Campinas, Praia Clube and Osasco.

For the Brazilian team, Walewska was a champion of almost everything. Olympic champion in 2008 and bronze in 2000, the player also won silver at the 2006 World Cup and won her third Grand Prix championship, currently the Nations League.

This year Walewska launched “Outras Redes”, her biography, a work in which she told details of her career. This week, in São Paulo, she participated in several events and was at the Palmeiras Football Academy, where she met with coach ABEL Ferreira.
