Vasco will have the second of three direct clashes in the fight to remain in the elite of the Brazilian Championship. This Monday, at 8pm, they visit América-MG at Independência, in Belo Horizonte (MG), in a delayed game from the 15th round. The Rio team has the chance to get out of the relegation zone for the first time since the seventh round, that is, after four months.
In the last match, Vasco beat Coritiba 5-1 and reached 23 points, in 18th place. If he wins, he will leave Santos (24) and Bahia (25) behind, taking 16th place, first outside the relegation zone. Afterwards, there will be the third direct confrontation against Santos, at Vila Belmiro.
An important factor in Vasco’s recovery was the four consecutive victories at home, even against difficult opponents. Before Coritiba, they beat Grêmio and Atlético-MG, both 1-0, and Fluminense, 4-2.
However, to achieve the objective of staying out of the last places, they will need to reverse their record as a visitor. In 11 games, there were one win, four draws and six defeats. And the only triumph was in the first round, when they scored 2-1 against Atlético-MG, in Mineirão.
With the good performance against Coritiba, not only because of the score, but because of the intensity from start to finish, coach Ramón Díaz should repeat the lineup, including keeping midfielder Payet as a starter. América is coming off a 2-0 defeat to Red Bull Bragantino at home, and has been without a win for two games. As a result, they have 17 points, in 19th and penultimate place. The team needs to improve its performance at home to react. In 12 games, there were four wins, one draw, and seven defeats.
Coach Fabián Bustos will have absences and returns to assemble the team. Marcinho, Mateus Henrique, Wanderson, Kayzer and Matheusinho are in the medical department and are certain to be absent, as are Everaldo and Danilo Avelar, who are suspended.
The good news is that defender Javier Mendez, full-back Marlon and attackers Paulinho Boia and Wellington Paulista have been cleared by doctors. Even if they are related, however, they must start at the bank.
