A military police officer who was off duty, but armed, responded to an attempted robbery at a Lojas Americanas unit in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, on the afternoon of Saturday, 23, and shot a 23-year-old boy accused of the attempted robbery. He was rescued and is doing well. Another accomplice was arrested and a third managed to escape. No customers or employees were injured.

The three robbers arrived at Lojas Americanas located on Avenida Thiago Ferreira, in the Itapema neighborhood, at around 1:15 pm on Saturday. When they announced the robbery, the plainclothes police officer was at the scene and decided to react. He fired four shots, which hit one of the people accused of the robbery.

The boy was injured in the head, chest, right arm and right leg. Rescued by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), he was taken to Santo Amaro hospital, survived and is recovering. His name was not disclosed. The police officer was not injured.

In a statement, the Americanas stated that “the monitoring and security protocols were immediately activated and enabled prompt action by the authorities.” The company reported that no employees or customers were injured and that it is cooperating with the investigation into the case.
