The capital, opened in 1960, is distinguished by its white and modern architecture, by Oscar Niemeyer. Among the main tourist attractions visited over the years are: Nossa Senhora Aparecida Metropolitan Cathedral, JK Memorial, Pontão do Lago Sul, Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, National Museum of the Republic, National Congress, Sarah Kubitschek City Park, Banco do Brasil Cultural Center ( CCBB), São João Bosco Sanctuary, Planalto Palace, Alvorada Palace, Praça dos Três Poderes, Mané Garrincha Stadium, Catetinho Museum, Brasília Zoo, Brasília National Park – Mineral Water, TV Tower, Brasília Planetarium and Catetinho Museum.

The public present this year at the Catetinho Museum reached 25,772, while last year there were 29,244 visitors.

The numbers show the strength of Brasília as a tourist city full of attractions and charm. “The National Congress Palace is one of the most visited places in Brasília, receiving tourists from all regions of the country, as well as abroad”, comments the coordinator of the Institutional Visitation and Community Relations Program, Ronaldo Martins.

The ZOO’s Superintendent of Education and Public Use, Wilson Nobre, considered: “Zoos are true tourist treasures that delight visitors all over the world. In these fascinating spaces, the magic of nature comes to life, offering the unique opportunity to get up close to animals majestic wilds and explore the secrets of their habitats. In the heart of Brasília, the zoo is not just an entertainment destination, but a dynamic learning center.”

“More than a million people passed through the Arena BRB complex in the more than 80 events we have held so far in 2023. We are on the right path. And with that, they leveraged the capital’s major centers: the hotel chain, tourism and other areas which are positively impacted by concerts, football matches and corporate events”, adds Richard Dubois, president of the Arena.

With a focus on placing Brasília increasingly at the center of tourism, the DF Tourism Secretariat works in partnership with sector representatives to develop actions and projects. Among these procedures are the development of the Tourism Law, the regulation of physical space for Motorhomes, the implementation of the events calendar, and the return of the Festa dos Estados festival. According to the ministry, the objective is to attract attention to the capital, highlighting new trends in local tourism, such as Wine Tourism, Rural Tourism, Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism.

“Brasília, for many years, was known for being a functional city, designed only to serve 500 thousand people. Today, with around 3 million inhabitants, the country’s capital is among the largest metropolises, full of alternatives to meet all the expectations of those who arrive here. We are the 3rd gastronomic hub in the country, we have the 4th largest nautical fleet, we are on the circuit of major musical and sporting events, we host major festivals, not to mention the nature that is everywhere, making adventure and experience tourism even more attractive . The GDF has been working together with the entire tourism market in the capital to further strengthen everything we have achieved so far”, says the Secretary of Tourism, Cristiano Araújo.

On this Tourism Day, September 27th, and throughout the year, there is no shortage of places to visit or revisit in Brasília. In the country’s capital, even people from Brasilia become tourists, as is the case of Professor Anderson José, who is passionate about the square’s museums and parks: “I really enjoyed visiting the museums; both the National Museum of Brasília and the Catetinho Museum, due to the fact that these places show the history of the construction of the capital and other issues related to the past. When we go to these places we understand a little about Brazil’s recent history. Besides these, I like Parque da Cidade. It’s a great place for running and other sports.”

Secretary Keyla Freitas has a story for every tourist spot she has visited in Brasília with family or friends, and never fails to return to those that enchanted her most: “The Cathedral is a place that brings me peace and lightness. In addition to being an architectural spectacle. The stained glass windows convey a surreal energy, every detail is so magical. The TV tower, a mandatory stop for those who go to the center of Brasília on the weekends, in addition to going up and having some of the most beautiful views of Brasília, also has handicrafts, typical foods and presentations of Brasília culture”.
