Those who walk along the Plano Piloto Bus Station may never have noticed, but the platforms in the public space house interactive totems with essential information for passengers. There are 12 pieces of equipment for consultations on lines, timetables and itineraries of the buses that travel through the city and use the place as a passage.
Known as orientation stations, the items are located close to the stairs leading to the upper platform, towards Conjunto Nacional and Teatro Nacional, and the stairs to the subway. In recent months, the equipment has become even more visible to users after the space, previously polluted by illegal trade, was cleared.
“We have been working to raise awareness among permit holders so that street vendors who end up hindering the use of the equipment can be removed by installing themselves in front or nearby and taking away the passenger’s attention, because it is a system that adds value to public transport”, states the undersecretary of Terminals of the Mobility and Transport Secretariat (Semob), Denyson Franklin de Souza.
Simplified access
Using these services is easy. The passenger simply touches the screen and selects the desired option. It is possible to choose the administrative region the user is going to and check all available bus lines with timetable, route and even the departure point from the Plano Piloto Bus Station. Information is updated within 48 hours.
“This is public utility information, of utmost importance, because it guides those who need it most – which is the user, who has real-time information about the time and boarding point”, summarizes the administrator of the Plano Piloto Bus Station, Josué Martins de Oliveira.
The totems are part of a space concession from the Government of the Federal District (GDF) to the company Fluxo Mídia. In addition to the 12 pieces of equipment for consultation, the agreement includes another 78 and 107 screens where information about the lines is displayed, as well as operational messages and advertisements. There is no cost to public coffers. On the contrary: the GDF receives part of the revenue from advertising displayed in return for the concession.
Inspection operations
Since May, the Plano Piloto Bus Station has had actions to clear the platforms. In a joint operation between Semob and the Public Security (SSP) and Urban Order Protection (DF Legal) secretariats, inspection and combat against illegal trade is being carried out.
The objective is to provide security, mobility and access to public services in the space. This is the case with guidance stations. “They were surrounded by street vendors, preventing the population from orienting themselves around the totems that have information on departure times, lines and bus boarding locations”, explains the director of Inspection at Semob’s Sub-Secretariat of Inspection, Audit and Control, Marconi Albuquerque.
