São Paulo state deputy Eduardo Suplicy (PT) was diagnosed, at the end of last year, with Parkinson’s disease. So far, the politician has mild symptoms.
The information is from Mônica Bergamo, from Folha de S. Paulo. The PT member sought out specialists after his geriatrician, Nelson Carvalhaes, noticed the first signs of the disease. “He detected it, but there was nothing detailed,” Suplicy explained.
Parkinson’s is a chronic and progressive degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Its main characteristic is progressive tremors.
According to Suplicy, he initially hadn’t noticed the signs. “It was only later, talking to Dr. Luana Oliveira, that I began to notice the symptoms,” he explained. The neurologist is part of the Medicinal Cannabis nucleus at the Sírio-Libanês hospital.
After the diagnosis, the PT member began treatment with medicinal Cannabis and defends that its distribution be regulated in the country so that patients who do not have economic conditions can acquire it.
“I had certain tremors in my hands, specifically when eating, holding cutlery, eating soup. I was shaking a little. And some imbalance, which made me almost fall when I tripped over an object,” he says.
