The fifth batch of Personal Income Tax refunds – IRPF 2023 – is now available for consultation. The batch also includes residual refunds from previous years.

To find out if the refund is available, the taxpayer must access the Revenue website, click on My Income Tax and then on Consult the Refund.

Bank credit for approximately 1.2 million taxpayers will be made next Friday (29), in the amount of R$ 1,965,610,737.14.

Of this total, R$507,782,232.72 refers to taxpayers who have priority, 7,402 of whom are elderly people over 80 years of age; 57,572 taxpayers aged between 60 and 79; 6,847 taxpayers with some physical, mental disability or serious illness; 19,864 taxpayers whose largest source of income is teaching; and 141,577 taxpayers who do not have legal priority, but who received priority because they used a pre-filled declaration or chose to receive the refund via PIX.

The fifth batch also included 1,027,838 non-priority taxpayers who submitted their declaration by September 15th.

Pagamento 

Payment of the refund is made to the bank account informed in the income tax declaration, directly or by indicating a PIX key. If, for any reason, the credit is not carried out (for example, the informed account was deactivated), the amounts will be available for redemption for one year at Banco do Brasil.

In this case, the citizen can reschedule the credit of the amounts through the BB Portal or through the BB Relationship Center on telephone numbers 4004-0001 (capitals), 0800-729-0001 (other locations) and 0800-729-0088 (special telephone number exclusively for disabled people). auditory).

If the taxpayer does not redeem the amount of his refund within one year, the request must be made through the e-CAC Portal, available on the Federal Revenue website, accessing the menu Declarations and Statements My Income Tax and clicking on Request refund no redeemed in the banking network.

According to the Federal Revenue, between March and September this year, it received 43,481,995 IRPF 2023 declarations, base year 2022. Of this total, 1,366,778 declarations were retained in the tax mesh – 3.1% of the total declarations received.

Of the declarations retained in the mesh, 954,814 are declarations whose result determined by the taxpayer is tax to be refunded; 386,102 declarations whose result determined by the taxpayer is tax payable; and 25,962 declarations with zero results determined by the taxpayer – when there is nothing to pay or refund.

The main reasons for tax retention – in this year 2023 – are deductions, with medical expenses being the main reason for retention (58.1%); omission of income subject to annual adjustment for declared holders and dependents (27.6%); discrepancies between IRRF (Income Tax Withheld at Source) values ​​and what was reported and what was declared by individuals (10%); and deductions of tax due, receipt of accumulated income and discrepancy between the declared amounts of carnê-leão and supplementary tax and the amounts actually collected (4.3%).
